From Concept to Submittal: How We Engineer Custom Solutions for Your Site
Off-the-shelf poles work for 80% of projects. But for the other 20%—the high-design plazas, the hurricane-prone coastlines, and the smart-city campuses—you need more than a part number. You need a custom engineering partner.
Here is how Pole Authority utilizes our vendor network to solve your most complex site challenges.
1. Architectural Elegance: Custom Finishes & Profiles
If an architect has specified a "Parthenon-style" curve or a color that isn't in a standard deck, we look to Concord American Flagpole and Schréder.
-
Entasis Tapering: We can provide flagpoles from Concord designed with a classical entasis taper—a slight outward curve that prevents the "optical illusion" of the pole looking thin in the middle against a bright sky.
-
Infinite Color Matching: Send us an RAL number or a physical color chip. Through Hapco and Concord, we provide high-performance powder coating and anodizing that matches your building's curtain wall or branding perfectly.
2. Structural Extremes: Beyond Standard Wind Loads
When you're building a 100-foot monumental flagpole or mounting heavy 5G equipment in a Level 4 Hurricane zone, "standard" doesn't exist.
-
The Valmont & Zeus Advantage: We work directly with Valmont’s structural engineers to design high-mast poles up to 250 feet. For coastal projects, we utilize Zeus (PLP) to custom-wrap fiberglass layers to meet exact PSI and wind-flection requirements, ensuring your liability is covered with a stamped PE (Professional Engineer) report.
3. Smart Integration: Modularity by Design
The most common custom request today is: "I need this pole to hold a light, a camera, a speaker, and an EV charger."
-
Schréder & Hapco Custom Hubs: Instead of messy external wiring, we utilize Schréder’s SHUFFLE or Hapco’s AlumiSmart systems. We work with your electrical sub-contractor to pre-configure internal mounting plates and separate high/low voltage chambers before the pole even ships.
4. The "GC-Friendly" Logistics Model
The biggest "custom" need for a General Contractor isn't the pole itself—it's the timeline.
-
Staged Delivery: We can coordinate with Eder or WiLL to ship your anchor bolts and templates weeks before the poles. This allows your concrete crew to finish their pour while the poles are still being fabricated.
-
Pre-Drilled for Success: Send us the spec sheet for your third-party LED fixtures. We will have the poles pre-drilled at the factory (Hapco/Valmont) so your electricians aren't field-drilling aluminum on a ladder 30 feet in the air.
The Pole Authority Custom Workflow
-
Consult: You send us the site plan or architectural spec.
-
Spec-Check: We determine which vendor (Zeus for corrosion, Valmont for height, etc.) is the best fit.
-
Draft: We provide detailed shop drawings and wind-load data for your submittal package.
-
Execute: We manage the factory production and logistical "staged" delivery.
